Trixie Little - BIG Founder
The Burlesque Innovation Guild was conceived of in 2009 by veteran peformer Trixie Little and made public as a website in June 2010. BIG exists to honor the pioneering artists in neo-burlesque whose innovative, inventive, surprising, clever, weird, ambitious and ridiculous creativity is the future of our art. There is no application process, committee or competition. Just one woman's opinion. (BIG name. Little's opinion.) This site consists of three main elements:
THE BIG BLOG- Trixie Little will chronicle the remarkable new work that she sees during her extensive national and international travel with The Evil Hate Monkey.
THE BIG AWARDS- Trixie Little will announce annual awards to celebrate the brilliant, the weird and the subtle art/artists who are contributing to the evolution of burlesque. There is no limit or quota, but often awards can be announced after major burlesque festivals where she will see 100+ acts in a weekend.
BIG ARTICLES- Interviews and research about the history of ground breaking people who strip.
BIG is dedicated to following emerging trends and out-of-the-box thinkers in neo-burlesque!
A Statement from founder Trixie Little...
Since I'm from Baltimore, I highly value eccentricity and extreme individuality. The purpose of BIG is to encourage the growing burlesque scene to stay connected to the sense of risk-taking and "primal freedom" (Jo Boobs' phrase) that makes burlesque performance magical. This site is a way to celebrate the million little moments of brilliance that make burlesque a raw, fresh and passionate form of expression. I believe that innovation and explosive creativity is the future of our art. The innovation can be small or large, poignant or profound- it can involve any aspect of performance too: music, movement, energy, costume, props, venue, lighting, etc. The main question I ask myself is "have I ever seen this before?" I like to be surprised and I hope to encourage more creativity in the world. This site is my love letter to all of the artistic pioneers.
